This brief explores how migration and environmental degradation can be understood as a cause or a consequence of one another.

It originates from an exploration of Nalga de Maco National Park, in the Dominican Republic, as the field of study in which various quantitative and qualitative methodologies have been applied as a way to understand how environmental degradation occurs in a protected area; it also verifies the impact migration has in that process.
